I am a board game lover, and I always try to broaden my horizons with new games. I have been playing Catan for the past 3 or so years. I played the old version and the new version (same game, different pictures, updated graphics), and I will say that the new version is more appealing to the eye. However, the board pieces are constantly shifting during play, and it makes for a bothersome distraction to an organized person such as myself. I wish they would figure out a way to fix this problem so that the pieces stay in place. Either way, the pieces are durable... we often turn Catan into a drinking game, and one time the entire board was covered in wine. It all dried out, and despite the slight purple tinge some of the cards and pieces have, 2 years later it still works like new! No warping or disintegration present!

If you're at this page you've probably heard or read about how great the game is, how the board changes every game, and how even though it takes a couple hours to play all players stay involved even when it's not "your turn". All around, it's pretty much the best board game out there. It's not too educational aside from learning negotiation / bartering and probabilities. The cards and game pieces hold up pretty well, my brother spilled soda on his set and the cards ended up surviving being wiped with a wet paper towel.
I plan on getting an expansion set or two pretty soon.

Game is addicting and fun. It is not to difficult to learn, and you must change your strategy every time you play.
