My 15 month-old son is fairly advanced with his fine motor skills and likes to put keys in locks, work with buttons, etc., so I bought him the Latches Board. He does enjoy it! He chuckles when he is able to open or close some of the latches. My main complaint is that the product is NOT WELL MADE. One of the latches (blue top middle) does not even work because it was constructed so poorly. Another latch (purple top left) is so "tight" I can barely work it and it is impossible for a younger child. Melissa & Doug need to contact their manufacturer and demand some quality control.

The actual hooks and latches are more complex to operate than it seems in the online photo, and some of them seem too stiff for a child to operate. My grandson, 16 months, lost interest in the easy ones he could do after seeing what was inside each door and lost interest in the ones he could not do because those stiff ones just frustrated him.

So my son is only 2 and he definitely likes to work the latches and open the doors. He can do some of them, but not others.
I've been looking at this toy a lot since my son always needs my help when he plays with it.
I think there are some quality issues with this "latches board". As others have mentioned, the latches can be hard to work (even for me). The second latch in particular (blue one with #2 on front)is very very tight. It's too tight for a child to use. But they understand how it's SUPPOSED to work, so it ends up being frustrating for them instead of fun or educational.
The design is not great. The latches and doors all open and get caught on each other really easily. If the latch from #1 is flipped down, it blocks the door from opening or closing below it. The chain link on #5 gets caught in the latch for #6.
The actual design for most of the locks (just like the real ones they mimic) is for them to be vertical, not flat on the ground. The pictures of the doors and windows also implies that they should be "up" as normal doors and windows are. The weight and balance of this toy does not allow one to sit it up or prop it up very easily. Maybe this latches board could come with a stand or prop for the back in the future?
If you are considering this toy, I might suggest a M&D puzzle instead. They do them very well, much better than this.

Our 10 month old son was so excited to play with this toy. He opened all the doors and made noise with the locks and hinges. He still comes back to this toy every now and then. He's had it a month and still enjoys playing with it. I imagine this toy will become more fun in months to come.

My 3 1/2 year old grandson is a door and lock freak! Totally fascinated with opening/closing/locking/unlocking,etc. This puzzle has latches but also teaches counting and colors, but by far it is the latches that make this puzzle unique.
